Pool Committee
Meet the pool committee:
Adrian
Adrian is famous for being the "firewood guy" on Conway Street. His kids go to another school, but lives locally and has always appreciated being able to have a key entry over the summer for the family. Passionate about keeping the pool open and often puts his handyman skills to work and gets heaps of jobs done looking after the facility.
Ange
Ange is a mother of 3 active boys who have spent their childhood summers down at the pool. Has a background in finance and looks after the money side of things. Often seen counting money after the fundraising events. Also a fantastic cook and is often seen in the kitchen slicing dozens and dozens of onions for our delicious sausage sizzles.
Bridgit
Bridgit and mother of 5 and chairperson of the pool committee. A driving force behind the group. Has a real vision for pool and the community relationships that it fosters. Knows heaps of people and how to find the simplest and best way forward. An extraordinary fundraiser and came up with our now famous "splash day" and "gala" events.
Duane
Duane is a father of 4 young kids, works down the road at Spreydon Baptist Church and has a background in Youth And Community development. Initially gathered the pool committee together simply because of the community support being heard on the school BOT, but now his kids are often seen having tea at the pool and going home in there Jammie's.
Duane is the official liaison to the BoT and tends to do a lot of the writing and communicating.
Jay
Jay lives locally, father of 2 young kids, works in the pool industry doing chlorination and water quality for many of Christchurch's pools (very handy!) Passionate to serve the community using his skills, spends hours with volunteers training them to keep the pool a beautiful crystal blue. Takes great pride in our water quality.
Joy
Joy is a mother of 2, lives locally. Learnt to swim in the pool as a child and is part of the way of life her family and her extended family. Joy is eloquently spoken and knows a lot of the history and the people. Volunteers on the rosters and connects people and relationships.
Julian
Julian is a father of 6 and local business owner. His grandad, his dad and he and his kids have all swum in the pool. His children are often seen hucking in with him. Julian is a jack of all trades and specializes getting things done! He is very resourceful. Famous for scuba diving in the green pool in the middle of winter for an hour searching for cracks. Also famous for his plant stall at the gala's where all proceeds go to pool. Local legend.
Nick
Nick lives locally, works as mechanical engineer for Powell Fenwick and specialises in aquatic centre design (very handy!). Started volunteering helping to design heating solutions for the last campaign and now is really passionate about keeping this community asset. He believes pools like ours are rare and this one is a real diamond in he mix of pool facilities in the city - especially post quake. He uses his engineering skills and connections as well as his entrepreneurial vision.
Nicky
Nicky lives locally, 2 kids at school. Works at our local Warehouse, passionate about the pool because of water safety and also the environment where people come together. believes it is a local asset. Volunteer parent at school and pool tester and roster for opening a closing
Scott
Scott lives locally, 2 kids at school, works as a sheet metal worker. Passionate about pool because loves seeing his kids growing in confidence in swimming - seeing all their mates and friends swimming so regularly and encouraging them to swim. Seeing kids go from not sticking a toe in to loving it. Volunteer pool tester and on the roster for opening and closing.
